Understanding Past Life Soul Contracts and Vows

Writer's picture: Kelsey KuehlKelsey Kuehl

I have been reading client's Akashic Records for nearly two years. One thing that I have found interesting when doing Past Life Readings is that many people still have active contracts and/or vows in their soul's energy field that they made in previous incarnations.

Past life contracts and vows refer to the agreements and commitments that souls are believed to have made before incarnating into their current lives. These contracts are thought to outline specific lessons, experiences, and relationships that a soul intends to explore in order to facilitate growth and healing across multiple lifetimes.

What are Soul Contracts?

Soul contracts are seen as pre-birth agreements between souls, often involving other souls, to engage in particular experiences that contribute to their spiritual evolution. These contracts may include themes such as love, forgiveness, or overcoming challenges. Soul contracts are typically made between two separate souls and could fall into one of the following categories:

  1. Human-to-human soul contract: Refers to an agreement or connection between two individuals at a spiritual level. Both souls will agree to incarnate as humans together for specific purposes, lessons, or experiences. These contracts can manifest in various forms, including friendships, romantic relationships, family ties, or even brief encounters. Ultimately, human-to-human soul contracts are seen as a way to understand the deeper connections and purposes behind our relationships with others.

  2. Human-to-spirit soul contract: Refers to an agreement that exists between a human being and a spiritual entity, which may include Spirit Guides, Ancestors, or other benevolent beings. This concept suggests that humans and spirits engage in mutual relationships for guidance, support, or specific lessons during their lifetimes. Unfortunately, these contracts can also be made with negative entities, such as spirits from a demonic nature or lower level of consciousness.

For the most part, these are unconscious contracts that a person made in a previous lifetime or before they incarnated into a physical body. Once we are born into a human body we are meant to forget these agreements exist. Most people don't even realize that they have made a soul contract that is still affecting them in their current life.

The Role of Vows in Past Lives

Vows, on the other hand, are specific promises or commitments made by a soul, often related to particular roles or responsibilities in a lifetime. Examples include vows of poverty, celibacy, or devotion, which can significantly influence a person's life choices and experiences.

Understanding these concepts can provide insights into current life challenges and relationships, suggesting that they may stem from unresolved issues or lessons from previous lifetimes.

In my Past Life Readings, I have found that most vows fall into one of the following categories:

  1. "Vows of Lack" refers to the comittments made in past lives that may lead to poverty, celibacy, or sacrifice in the present life. Sometimes these vows can also manifest as isolation or lonileness. These types of vows can manifest in various ways, affecting a person's financial situation, relationships, and overall sense of fulfillment and success as they often lead to a life of scarcity and/or deprivation.

  2. "Vows of Punishment" refers to the promises made in previous incarnations that can manifest as self-imposed limitations, feelings of guilt, or a sense of unworthiness. One example of these kinds of vows is a vow of self-denial in which a person promises to deny themself joy, success, or love as a form of punishemnt. Another example is a vow of suffering in which a person has agreed to endure a life of pain or hardship as a form of penance. People who have these kinds of vows still in their energy field may have recurring patterns of failure or self-sabotage or difficulty accepting love, success, or happiness.

  3. "Spiritual or Religious Vows" are commitments usually made as a requirement in certain spiritual or religious traditions. Some people have vowed their loyalty to a specific religion or deity while others have made vows to lower forms of consciousness. These vows profoundly inluence a persons beliefs and lifestyle choices and can have a strong impact on their spiritual growth. Common spiritual vows include vows of silence, service, compassion, chastity, poverty, and obedience.

Reasons for Making Soul Contracts and Vows

Contracts and vows are believed to be established with the main purpose of helping individuals grow and learn. The interactions within these contracts often involve challenges or lessons that the individual has chosen to learn on a soul-level.

Another reason that a person may make a vow or contract is for spiritual development and evolution. This process often involves a deep commitment to personal growth and the pursuit of a higher state of consciousness. Individuals may choose to enter into such vows or contracts as a means of aligning their actions with their spiritual beliefs and values, allowing them to cultivate a more profound connection with themselves and God.

By making a vow, a person may dedicate themselves to specific practices such as meditation, prayer, or acts of service, which can serve as powerful tools for transformation. These commitments are not merely obligations; they represent a conscious choice to engage with one's spirituality in a meaningful way. The act of making a vow can also create a sense of accountability, encouraging individuals to remain steadfast in their journey toward enlightenment and self-discovery.

Furthermore, spiritual vows can act as catalysts for change, prompting individuals to confront their fears, release limiting beliefs, and embrace new perspectives. This process often requires introspection and self-examination, leading to a deeper understanding of one's purpose and place in the world. As individuals navigate the challenges that arise from their commitments, they may experience significant personal breakthroughs, fostering resilience and inner strength.

The Drawbacks of Contracts and Vows

When a person has an active vow or contract in their energy field, it can significantly influence their life experiences and interactions. These vows or contracts, often formed during pivotal moments in a person's life or even in past lifetimes, create binding agreements that shape one's thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Such agreements may stem from a variety of sources, including traumatic experiences, cultural or familial expectations, or spiritual commitments made in moments of desperation or clarity.

As these vows remain active within the individual's energy field, they can manifest as repetitive patterns and behaviors that may no longer serve the person's highest good. For instance, a vow of silence made in a past life due to fear of persecution might lead to difficulties in expressing oneself in the present, resulting in feelings of frustration or isolation. Similarly, a contract made to serve others at the expense of one's own needs can create a cycle of self-neglect and resentment, affecting personal relationships and overall well-being.

These patterns often become ingrained, making it challenging for individuals to break free from them. The subconscious mind can reinforce these behaviors, leading to a sense of inevitability about one's circumstances. This can create a feedback loop where the individual feels trapped in a cycle of repeating the same mistakes, attracting similar situations or people that reflect these unresolved issues.

Moreover, the impact of these active vows or contracts is not limited to the individual alone; it can extend to their relationships and communities. The energy associated with these agreements can ripple outward, influencing the dynamics of family, friendships, and even professional environments. For instance, a person bound by a vow of loyalty to a toxic relationship may inadvertently draw others into similar patterns of dysfunction, perpetuating cycles of unhealthy relationships.

In terms of future lifetimes, the implications of these active vows can be even more profound. If not addressed, these unfinished agreements may carry over, leading to a continuation of the same challenges and behaviors in subsequent incarnations. This can create a sense of karmic debt or unresolved lessons that the soul must confront, potentially hindering spiritual growth and evolution.

Discovering Your Past Life Contracts

There are a few techniques for uncovering past life contracts. The easiest way that I have found is through an Akashic Record Reading. Specifically, in the Past Life Reading that I provide, I will read a person's Akashic Record to see if they still have any active vows or contracts within their energy field that are no longer serving them. From there, it's up to the client to decide if they'd like to release those contracts or not.

You may also be able to uncover past life contracts through deep contemplation, meditation, prayer, or visualization practices. A dream analysis or past life regression could also help a person discover their connections to past lives.

Chances are that if you're reading this, then you probably already have a good idea if this topic pertains to you or not. I have found that once a person discovers a past life contract or vow, they suddenly breathe a sign of relief as it feels like a missing puzzle piece was suddenly restored to their life.

If you aren't comfortable or capable of confirming a vow or contract on your own, it is important to seek guidance from a professional. You must never assume that the main reason for your troubles or burdens is simply because of a past life agreement (it is often much more complex than just one thing). It's also important to understand that even the best practitioners can get it wrong sometimes. So, if you ever receive information that doesn't resonate with you, then you should always trust yourself first and foremost, or receive a second opinion.

breaking free from contracts and vows

It is important to keep in mind that while a contract may outline certain life experiences or lessons, all individuals still possess free will to make choices and changes throughout their lives. At any time, you may choose to release an old vow or contract that no longer serves you.

You can engage in practices aimed at recognizing and releasing these active vows or contracts. Techniques such as energy healing, meditation, past life healing, and inner child work can help uncover the origins of these agreements and facilitate their dissolution. By consciously choosing to release these bindings, individuals can pave the way for healthier patterns, greater self-awareness, and a more fulfilling life experience. Ultimately, understanding and addressing the presence of active vows and contracts in one’s energy field is a crucial step toward personal empowerment and spiritual freedom.

Once you have this newfound knowledge you can choose to move on from a soul contract or vow. The first step is to release all souls consciously and verbally from this contract, including yourself. It may help to repeat this prayer or something similar:

God, Angels, and Spirit Guides:

I release any souls I have engaged with from all vows, promises, commitments, and contracts in this lifetime, all past lifetimes, and all future lifetimes.

I revoke permission for any psychic ties that bind me.

I command all cords that bind us be completely and permanently cleared and removed, never to tether us again.

I release myself from all vows, promises commitments, and contracts in this lifetime, all past lifetimes, and all future lifetimes.

Please bring in new love, light, and peace for everyone concerned.

Thank you.

It is done, it is done, it is done.

After this, you will also want to engage in adequate journaling or self-reflection. Recognize and contemplate the ways that this past life vow and/or contract has effected your current life. Think of ways in which you need to establish new patterns and behaviors in your life. You may also want to practice forgiveness and self-liberation techniques so that you can free yourself from self-limitations.

Finally, it's a good idea to move on by focusing on the future. Now that the weight of old contracts has been released, you should set new intentions and goals for moving forward. Consciously create your future by establishing behaviors that are aligned with your life goals.

With love,

Kelsey
