New Year's Release Ritual

Updated: Apr 27, 2022

The end of the year is always a good time to cleanse yourself and let go of anything that is holding you back from realizing your highest potential. The intention of this simple ritual is to consciously begin the process to release anything that is inhibiting you.

This "letting go" ritual came to me many years ago through my own intuition. It is simple, but effective. All you need is a pen, paper, and ample alone time to write and reflect.

What are you letting go of?

Grab a piece of paper and begin to write down everything that you wish to release. This can be physical, mental, or emotional. It can include old traumas or past hurts that you're still clinging to. Essentially, by writing these things down, you begin to shed light on all the places in your life where darkness resides. It is from this place of acknowledgement where true healing can begin to take place.

Personally, when I write my "letting go" list, I use positive affirmations and statements. For example, I will write something like, "I, Kelsey, now release the shame and guilt I've carried my entire life. I energetically release anyone from my energy field who has taught me to feel anything less than Divinely created."

Here's some ideas to get you started...

Physical

  • Do you have any ailments, diseases, or pains that you wish to release from your body?

  • Are there any unhealthy habits and lifestyle choices that you're making that are keeping you from claiming your whole, best self?

  • Do you have any unhealthy or low frequency relationships that you're ready to create strong boundaries around or even walk away from? Are there people in your life who drain and deplete you?

  • What areas in your body and in your life need healing? What is preventing you from fully receiving this healing?

  • What do your hidden miseries and pains of daily life look like?

  • What roles do you play to hide your wounding? (I.e., the over-achiever, the jokester, the victim, the healer, the guru, etc.)

  • What do you dislike in yourself, others, or the world?

Emotional

  • Where do you still feel emotionally wounded?

  • What and how do you still get emotionally triggered?

  • What are you currently worried or stressed about?

  • In what ways do you feel burdened or heavy?

Mental

  • In what ways do you feel shame, doubt, fear, lack, guilt or insecure?

  • Where do you keep recycling outdated patterns, beliefs, and behaviors?

  • Where do you find yourself playing in lower frequencies of judgement or hostility towards others?

  • How does your ego and mental layers hold you back?

  • In what ways do you still blame others or external circumstances for how you are / feel?

Spiritual

  • What are you wanting to release from your heart and Soul once and for all?

  • What is preventing you from embracing your True Self?

  • In what ways do you feel weighed down, held back or unfree?

  • What do you wish to release that has kept you asleep or in low vibration?

  • What is holding you back from growing, evolving, changing, and realizing your purpose and highest potential?

  • What do you feel you need to release to be fully empowered?

Past

  • What about your history has been painful or has caused you suffering? How does it still effect your life in negative ways?

  • Where do you still cling to the old remnants of pain due to memories?

  • Who or what do you still carry resentment and bitterness towards?

  • In what ways are you looking to move on and start over?

Before The Ceremony

Begin by grounding and centering yourself by meditating, praying or deep breathing. It may help to smudge yourself and your home or partake in a shower cleanse to help clear your energy and mind. When you're ready, write down everything that you want to release and let go of. The sky is the limit here! If you could release anything and everything, what would it be? Dream big and write with as much detail as you can.

Give yourself at least 30 minutes for this part. I recommend that you take your time over several days or weeks to be sure that you've really thought of everything! Perhaps you could take 5-10 minutes over the next several days to contemplate this topic either first thing in the morning or right before bed or whenever you have a few moments of quiet. This is a healing ritual after all, so the more time and energy you give to it, the more you will get out of it in the long run.

Release Ritual

When you are ready to conduct the release ritual, go outside and find a quiet spot in nature where you can feel safe and undisturbed. With your hands or hand trowel, dig a small hole into the Earth. It only must be a couple of inches deep.

I always like to open any kind of ritual or ceremony with a small prayer or invocation to call in my Spirit Allies and ask for their assistance. I then set a conscious intention to begin the release process of letting go all that is weighing me down.

When you're ready, read your letter(s) either to yourself or out loud. Personally, I usually read them out loud. It feels more potent to me, but you can do it however you like. Once you are finished rip up your paper into tiny pieces. Place the pieces in your hole and then burry them in the soil.

After I've covered the hole back up with soil, I like to place my hands on top of the dirt and send my energy downwards into the Earth. You may want to offer a prayer that the Earth and your Spirit Allies help you to transmute these denser energies from your body, mind, heart, and Soul as well as your life. Take a few moments to feel your burdens being released into the Earth, then thank your Spirit Allies for assisting you.

You can repeat this ritual as often as needed!

With love,

Kelsey
